It is Wildfire Gymnastics’ great pleasure to announce that on November 13th Seniors Maddy Stover (University of Utah), Chanen Raygoza (Penn State University), Jill Van Mierlo (Brigham Young University) and Lauren Weisel (University of North Carolina) have indicated their commitments as student athletes by signing Letters of Intent acknowledging offers and acceptance of college full ride athletic scholarships.
J.O National Team member and 2013 Sr. B. National All Around Champion Maddy Stover (2011 J.O. National Beam Champion) will be, by the Fall of 2014, a NCAA Division 1 athlete with Ute gymnastics. Being one the most legendary gymnastics programs in the country, they have compiled a total of 10 NCAA National Championships. Utah Gymnastics is renowned, as well, for its record setting home attendance numbers (2013 Ave: 14,349). Maddy’s choice to attend the University of Utah, we believe, was the beginning of a perfect match having with it the promise of a profound experience to come.
Chanen Raygoza, 2011 J.O. National Team member and multiple National Championships qualifier, will soon be a Nittany Lion following the Summer of her senior year in 2014. Penn State, an academic giant, has an enduring gymnastics tradition. Having made 25 National Championships appearances since 1975, they have finished there nineteen times among the top 10, eleven times among the top six. Chanen is looking forward to a solid well rounded student athlete experience.
Jill Van Merlo, the 2013 J.O. National Invitational Tournament 7th place All Around finisher and National Bar Champion, happily welcomes her future as a member of the Cougar Gymnastics Team effective early Fall of 2014. BYU, a noted and very prominent educational institution, supports a gymnastics program having 8 times qualified as part of the nation’s top 12 to the NCAA Division 1 National Championships. Jill will be joining there Wildfire teammate and 2013 Wildfire graduate Emily Vidmar.
Lauren Weisel, will join the Tar Heel Gymnastics program with asset opportunities on Vault and Floor. She will arrive there with a most outstanding academic record, starting with a 4.5 GPA. Founded in 1789, UNC competes as part of EALG conference which includes the University of Maryland, the one time home of Wildfire alumna Ally Krikorian (UM Class of 2013). Lauren has held for a very long time quiet aspirations to be a part of NCAA gymnastics program. And then to be a part of such a community that is University of North Carolina, her ambitions have proven to be are met.
