The 2014 J.O. Level 10 National Championships preceded by the 2014 J.O. Level 9 Western National Championships marked the end of the Optional season for Wildfire Gymnastics, our next competition events being the compulsory season beginning sometime in September.
The Jackson Convention Complex in Jackson, Mississippi served as the site for both the Level 10 National Championships and directly following the National Invitational Tournament. There, 595 gymnasts from 50 states, representing 8 regions, merged to compete for individual honors and Regional team pride.
Just seven Senior D division athletes qualified from Region 1 Championships to become members of the Region 1 Team to J.O. Nationals (Nationally ranked at 2nd). Two of the seven were Wildfire gymnasts. 2013 J.O. National All Around Champion, Maddy Stover, finished 4th AA in Jackson. This achievement put her on the 2014 - 2015 J.O. National Team, which by the way, continues her standing on the National Team since the Spring of 2013. Maddy finished out her club career as a two time Level 10 National Beam Champion, once in 2011 and again in 2014. Madison Stover will be, in early Summer, on her way to the University of Utah, fulfilling her obligation as a full ride athletic scholarship recipient. Jill Van Mierlo, the 2013 NIT National Bar Champion and 2014 Region 1 Level 10 Vault Champion (9.80), finished her J.O. National Championships experience earning high regard as a steadfast athlete reflecting a high performance 2014 season. Jill will this Fall join her Cougar teammates in response to her facilitating a full ride athletic scholarship to BYU. Maddy and Jill were ranked the highest scoring Southern California Senior D athletes of the meet.
Wildfire’s Grace Kramer entered the NIT portion of the weekend, these participating athletes essentially being the first alternate qualifiers to J.O. Level 10 Nationals. A 2013 J.O. National qualifier, Grace this time, in 2014, finished her NIT competition ranked 4th Nationally and in turn became both the Junior D NIT National Vault (9.825) and Floor Champion (9.600).
Boise State University served as the site for the Level 9 Western Championships where 383 gymnasts merged to compete also for individual honors and Regional team pride. Wildfire Gymnastics is so pleased to congratulate Lindsay Riggs for her most outstanding 2014 performance results including a 2014 SoCal Level 9 All Around Championship, a Senior D Region 1 All Around Championship and finally the standard of becoming the Level 9 2014 Western National All Around Silver Medalist. During the course of her accomplished effort, Lindsay also medaled on three events at Westerns, they being for Bars, Beam and Floor. Level 9 teammates Calyx Hampton and Emily Lopez (2nd AA 2014 Region 1 Championships) completed their entry level Western National Championship weekend with three individual event medals, Calyx on Vault and Floor and Emily on Floor.
