The 2015 Level 8, 9 and 10 Region 1 Championships were conducted this year at the Phoenix Convention Center during the weekend of April 17. The meet also served as a qualifying vehicle to J.O. Level 9 Western Championships (Spokane, WA) , J.O. Level 10 National Championships (Des Moines, IA) and the USAG National Invitational Tournament (Des Moines, IA). Seven Level 9 gymnasts per age group qualify to Westerns. Seven Level 10’s per age group qualify to J.O. Nationals. Level 10 gymnasts ranking 8th to 11th per age group qualify to NIT. Competitors at Regionals were 935 in number, representing over 100 teams from SoCal, NorCal, Utah, Nevada and Arizona.
2013 J.O. National qualifier, 2015 Nastia Cup qualifier and 2015 SoCal State All Around Champion, Nicoletta Koulos ranked 3rd among 55 Junior B division gymnasts, earning her a spot on the Region 1 qualifying roster to Nationals. First year Level 10 competitor Emily Lopez placed 5th of 7 Junior A qualifiers to join her teammate as part of the JO National Regional Team to the Championships in Des Moines. Nicoletta and Emily are now included among that list of Wildfire gymnasts who have since 2004, qualified 25 times to JO Level 10 National Championships. 2013 JO National Qualifier, two time 2014 NIT National Champion (Vault - 9.825, and Floor - 9.600), 2015 SoCal State AA Champion and 2015 Regional Vault Champion (9.750) Grace Kramer once again qualified to NIT along with Wildfire teammate Elle Golison. In the Senior A division, the Bronze medal on Floor was awarded to Wildfire’s Melanie Lockhart, who scored a 9.600.
Wildfire Gymnastics wishes to congratulate first year Level 9 competitor and now 2015 Western National Championships qualifier, Madison McIntyre! This result includes Madison as part that group of Wildfire gymnasts who have since 2003 qualified 29 times to the JO Level 9 Western Championships. Individual event highlights include Madalyn Parsons’ Silver Medal performances on Vault and Floor.
Juliana Harrison became the 2015 Region 1 Level 8 AA Champion (1st Beam, 1st Floor - 9.700 and 2nd Bars) bringing Wildfire’s AA Regional Gold Medal count to 15 in the past 3 seasons! Level 8 Amanda Obergfell finished her experience at Regionals 3rd AA (1st Floor, 2nd Bars, 3rd Vault), as did Madison Wong (2nd Floor, 3rd Vault). Aurora Huxman finished out at 4th AA placing 2nd on Bars and Beam. Five of 6 Wildfire Level 8 gymnasts completed their season as top 6 Regional All Around medalists, Isabella Ghio ranking 6th among that group. 2014 Region 1 Level 7 AA Champion, Morgan Langseth finishes well, a highlight being a regional Silver Medal for Beam.
