Wildfire Sweeps Once More Levels 3, 4 and 5 Team Championships

The compulsory level 3, 4, and 5 competition season is underway as Wildfire Gymnastics completed its second of five meets of the 2014 season. This preliminary qualifier was held the weekend of September 20th, it hosting 331 gymnasts representing 13 teams. By day’s end Wildfire, repeating its achievement from last week, had become this week’s Masquerade Mania 1st Preliminary Levels 3, 4 and 5 team champions. Doing this, Wildfire also, placed first at every level on each of the possible combined twelve team events, they being Vault, Bars, Beam and Floor. Of the 331 athletes participating, including every session and age division, Level 3 Amelia Wagner was the highest scoring of all (37.925). Wildfire’s Level 4, Brisa Mariano, was the second highest of that 331 and Karyssa Owens finished as the second highest scoring Level 5 of the weekend.

Of the 150 total Level 3’s competing, 8 Wildfire gymnasts ranked among the top 10 All around, including 4 in the top five. Winning the 9 year old age group AA with Golds on Vault (9.575), Bars and Beam (9.7), Amelia Wagner was joined by fellow AA Champions 8 year old, Alison Thomas (37.60 - 1st Beam, Floor), 10 - 11 year old AA leader, Payton Polana (1st Vault - 9.575, Floor). Individual event victories were accounted for by the efforts of 2nd AA Ashley Pak (Floor - 9.60), 2nd AA, Addie Anderson (1st Beam - 9.50), 3rd AA Presley Wickman (Bars - 9.575), Lauren Bowers (1st Bars - 9.575, Beam), and 8 year old Talia Self (Vault).

Of the weekend total of 128 Level 4 gymnasts competing, among them Wildfire athletes ranked 11 times inside the top six, 8 of whom finished in the top three, 4 of them All Around Champions. The leading scoring Level 4 of this number of 128 was Wildfire’s Brisa Mariano, she accumulating a 37.825 AA figure for the win. Adding to this would be her Gold medal performances on Bars (9.75) and Floor. Avery Byun, 1st prelim’s 7 - 8 year old All Around Champion (1st Vault, 1st Bars - 9.55), Katarina Delgado, the 9 year old AA Champion (1st Vault) and Twelve year old All Around Champion, Amy Sullivan (1st Vault, 1st Beam - 9.55), delivered most outstanding efforts, each rewarded by Gold medal honors. Championship honors included also those individual event championships won by our own 2nd AA winner Dominique Oertel (Beam - 9.70), 3rd place AA, Makayla Hoyt (1st Floor) and Kaitlyn Tran (1st Beam - 9.675).

During the course of this two day affair, 52 Level 5 gymnasts competed from which 6 Wildfire girls ranked among the top 10, this in total including all sessions and age groups. Of these, 5 finished as top 3 divisional All Around medalists. Wildfire’s leading scoring was Karyssa Owens (37.50) with standout individual event efforts on Bars (9.50) and Beam (9.425). First place All Around Champions also recognized would be Leah Ellwein (1st Vault - 9.50, 1st Beam - 9.575), Erica Flaherty (1st Vault, Floor). Silver medalist All Around runner ups Maya Dahan (1st Bars - 9.40) and Makenzie Stanton with culminating AA Bronze medalist Erica Miller, closed out this early season experience, in high fashion, looking forward to Wildfire’s next competition, our annual trip to Las Vegas!
