Wildfire Gymnastics began its fourteenth compulsory competition season on September 09, 2017. The SoCal 1st Prelim, “Compulsory Kick Off” was held at the Laguna Hills Community Center, the meet including 283 gymnasts. Three Wildfire gymnasts, did so by score, rank among the top 4 of that total number of 283 participating. That highlight includes Level 5’s Dayenu Munoz, Thi Nguyen and Arianna Espinoza. By the end, Wildfire emerged as Level 3 and Level 5 Team Champions. Sixty three Wildfire gymnasts, on the weekend, accumulated 137 top three awards, 47 of them being for championship gold.

From 16 Wildfire Level 5 girls came 39 top 3 finishes, 18 of them for 1st. These gymnasts went on to become the 2017 “Compulsory Kick Off” Team Champions. These same Wildfire gymnasts posted a 9.650 team event average, and by so doing prompted ‘My Meet Scores Online’ to publish this effort on September 9th, as the 4th highest Level 5 ranking in the country. Three of these gymnasts ended the meet by becoming Level 5 Gold Medal All Around Champions, the most of any team at the completion. Four others went on to win AA Silver. Three Wildfire gymnasts ranked among the first 4, as part of the complete roster of 62 Level 5’s competing. Leading the list by score was 12 year old AA Champion, Dayenu Munoz (38.700, 1st Bars - 9.700, 1st Floor - 9.900!!). Dayenu, was by meets end, the highest scoring gymnast on Bars, Floor and AA at the competition, this including every level, age group and session. Wildfire’s second highest scoring All Around gymnast was AA winner, Thi Nguyen (38.550, 1st Bars - 9.675, 1st Beam - 9.700). Thi’s Beam score was the highest of the weekend on the event, including every level. Following right behind her was 8 year old All Around Champion and 4 event winner, Arianna Espinoza (38.450, 1st Vault - 9.750, Bars - 9.600, Beam - 9.600, Floor - 9.500). Arianna’s Vault score was the highest of the meet including all levels. Additional standout performances included those by three event winner and All Around Champion Addie Anderson, 12 year old AA Silver Medalist Marina Martinez and her Gold Medal tie for the high vault score of the competition (9.750). Second place AA finisher Ailani Tran completed her competition with 1st place victories on Vault and Bars, while Amelia Wagner’s (9.500) and Malia Todd’s (9.725) held to reward for Beam and Vault Gold Medal efforts respectively.

Wildfire brought 16 Level 4’s and from those 16 came 36 top three finishes from which 12 were for Gold. There were 91 Level 4 gymnasts competing meet wide and Wildfire held 5 gymnasts among the top eleven of those. The highest scoring representatives from Wildfire were both 7 - 8 year old All Around Champion, Kherrington McGinley (37.700, 1st Vault) and equally scoring 11 year old AA Champion, Kaylee Ossman (37.700, 1st Bars, 1st Beam). Kherrington and Kaylee were one of four Level 4 AA Champions from Wildfire, four being more in number than any team. In fact we had seven finishing as top three AA award winners. Also tying in score as All Around Gold Medalists were Sara McLaughlin (37.625, 1st Bars - 9.650, 1st Floor - 9.625) and Erin Chen (37.625, 1st Vault). Additional Gold Medal highlights included: 11 year old AA Silver Medalist, Gillian Burrows (1st Vault and Floor - 9.600) and 7 - 8 year old third place All Around winner, Emma Le for Floor posting a 9.725!

Competing for honors were 130 Level 3 gymnasts from which the top 8 of that number were Wildfire girls. Thirty-one Wildfire gymnasts entered as Level 3’s, they coming back as 2017 Team Champions putting up a 9.500 team event average. This effort produced 49 top three individual awards including 19 Gold. Leading the path was 10 - 11 year old AA Champion, Logan Welsh (37.970, 1st Beam and Floor), she posting the highest ranked level 3 All Around score of the meet involving all age groups and sessions. Adding to the number of Wildfire AA champions would be three more, making it together, the most Level 3 All Around winners from any team including all sessions. They were 8 year old Kaytie Dobbert Madson (37.800, 1st Vault - 9.525, 1st Bars and Beam), 6 - 7 year old Maylee Chen (1st AA, Bars, Beam and Floor) and then there was 9 year old Ava-Malani Franco accounting for the second highest Level 3 AA score of the meet at 37.850. In addition, Ava-Malani finished out with the top Floor score as well (9.7000)! Adding to the Gold Medal performances of the weekend are - on Vault: Lauren Warners (9.500) and Nola Johnson (9.525), on Bars: Katie Bieger (9.500) and Hanna Dang (9.550), on Beam: Amber Vreeke (9.450).
