Wildfire Gymnastics continued its 2017 competitive optional level season in Florida at the Daytona Beach Classic, the meet site being the Daytona Beach Ocean Center. By competition’s end, Wildfire finished with 1st Place Team trophies at all levels and Individual All Around wins, ten in total, at every level entered, these being 7, 8, 9 and 10.
Leading Wildfire’s Level 7 effort by AA score were Jr. B All Around Champion, Brianna Nguyen (38.150, 1st Beam - 9.600) and Jr. B AA Silver Medalist Tenley Park (38.025, 1st Vault - 9.900!!, 1st Bars - 9.500, 1st Floor - 9.725). Rounding out the Junior B trifecta was AA Bronze Medalist Claire MacDonald. Highlight performances were characteristic of 2016 Level 5 AA Champion and now Level 7 Daytona Classic Jr. A, All Around Champion Kaitlyn Tran (37.775, 1st Vault - 9.800!!, 1st Floor - 9.825!!) and Senior AA Gold Medalist Amanda Acosta (1st Beam and Floor - 9.600). Wildfire’s Level 7 team finished their meet accounting for nearly a 9.6 team event average for the win.
Wildfire entered seven Level 8 athletes, three of them winning All Around Gold. Junior A division Gold Medalist, Avery Byun, was the leading scoring Level 8 of the competition, she posting a 37.950 (1st Vault - 9.500, 1st Beam and Floor - 9.600). Other All Around Championship victories included those by Junior B, Audrey Easter, she winning three events (1st Bars - 9.600, !st Beam - 9.500, 1st Floor - 9.550) and Julia Patrick, who also won three events (1st Vault - 9.65, 1st Beam and Floor). Additional Individual event gold medal performances added to the total effort resulting, by the end, Wildfire’s Level 8 Team win. Notable were those efforts by the following, All Around Silver Medalists every one: Junior B, Vault Champion Blakely Malpass (9.500), Junior A, Bar Champion Olivia Roberts (9.500) and Senior A, Kimi Kishimoto - Bar Champion.
Ten Wildfire Level 9’s took part in Florida and five of them completed the competition as the top five leading scorers of the meet. All five were Juniors, Alison Rannalli leading the way with All Around Gold (1st Bars - 9.650!). The others included AA Silver Medalist, Jordyn Warner (2nd Vault 9.500, 2nd Bars - 9.550, 2nd Floor), junior AA Bronze Medalist, Juliana Harrison (1st Floor), Avery Serna (1st Beam) and finally at 5th All Around, Lanie Kimura (3rd Vault - 9.500). Individual event standouts also include Junior age group Vault Champion, Madison Olson (9.625), Senior 2nd AA and Vault Champion, Tiffany Scott (9.500), and two time Gold Medalist, Senior age group’s Kara Lussier, she winning both
Bars (9.550) and Beam. The Wildfire Level 9’s, accounting together of a 9.4 team event average, came out as the 2017 Daytona Classic Level 9 Team Champions.
Two age groups separated the Level 10 completion, Junior and Senior. Nine Wildfire gymnasts participated. From these two age divisions, Wildfire 10’s, of which there were five competing All Around, three were awarded AA Gold due to a tie in the Junior group. Senior division’s Nicoletta Koulos was the leading Level 10 of the meet, she scoring a 37.800 (1st Vault - 9.900!! and Bars). Giana Kalefe and Alyssa Vulaj as Juniors tied for 1st AA, Giana winning Bars and Beam. Two additional individual event championship Golds were awarded reflecting high grade efforts from Junior All Around Bronze Medalist, Jordyn Duffield (Floor), and Sydney Gonzales (Vault - 9.850!!). Averaging 9.400 per team event total, Wildfire’s team Level 10 won its fourth Team Championship of the competition that was the 2017 Daytona Beach Classic.
