During the last weekend of September, Wildfire Gymnastics took its annual compulsory level team travel trip to Las Vegas, competing at the Gymcats Invitational. The well run event involved 298 gymnasts showing up from both Nevada and California. Wildfire gymnasts (8 of whom, in rank order, were rated as the top scoring athletes of the entire weekend event) accounted for 35 top 3 All Around finishes while 17 of them emerged as Gold medal AA champions. Team Wildfire Levels 3, 4 and 5 defended their 2014 results and still remain invitational team champions.

Wildfire’s Team - Level 3, accumulated a team total that reflects an individual event average just above 9.70. Seventy seven Level 3 gymnasts participated, and from this roster 18 Wildfire athletes finished among the top 20. Wildfire gymnasts came up with 16 AA top 3 awards, 8 of whom were presented with All Around Gold. The highest scoring gymnast of the entire weekend including all levels, age groups and sessions was Wildfire’s Lauren Stephens (38.925!), she winning each event reflecting the meet high score she posted on Floor for a 9.925! The All Around Champion and AA standout list also includes Gillian Burrows (1st AA - 38.425, 1st Vault - 9.750, 1st Beam - 9.750 and 1st Floor), Brianna Taurek (1st AA - 38.275, 1st Vault - 9.800!), Ashley Ables (1st AA - 38.275, 1st Floor), Kate Arakawa (1st AA - 38.275, 1st Vault - 9.675, Beam - 9.675 and Floor - 9.625), Carly Torres (2nd AA - 38.275, 1st Floor - 9.800!), Arianna Espinoza (1st AA - 38.200, 1st Vault - 9.700, 1st Bars, Beam and Floor), Bridget Bevan (2nd AA - 37.900, 1st Vault - 9.800!) and AA Champions all: Grace Hassenplug (1st AA - 37.950, 1st Vault, Beam and Floor) and Keili Harmston (1st AA, 1st Vault - 9.700).

Fifty eight Level 4 gymnasts participated at this competition and Wildfire gymnasts, by the end, ranked in order as the top 14 among them. Thirteen of these 14 placed as top 3 award recipients in their various age groups, 6 of them winning All Around Gold. The Wildfire girls posted a 9.600 team average to win the 2014 Gymcats Invitational Level 4 Team Championship. The leading Level 4 All Around score of the competition with a 38.600 belonged to Wildfire’s Emily Tjon, she positing as well, event high scores on both Vault (9.700!) and Beam (9.850!). All Around standouts also included Dominique Oertel (1st AA - 38.000, 1st Vault, 1st Floor - 9.700), Mia El-Bayar (1st AA - 37.925, 1st Beam - 9.775 and Floor - 9.675), Sophie Mitsumori (37.925, 1st Bars, 1st Beam - 9.750) and 1st place AA Champions: Sydney Leitch (1st Vault, 1st Bars - 9.700!), Alexa Alcantar (1st Vault), with Mikayla Stover (1st Vault, Beam and Floor).

Three Wildfire Level 5 gymnasts, by meet’s end, ranked in order as the top 3 scoring athletes of the Level 5 competition, and by adding one more there were 4 among the top 6. Seven girls producing a team event average score of 9.55 brought about our third of 3 team championships of the weekend. Leading the Level 5 team effort was the top scoring Level 5 gymnast of the entire meet, Brisa Mariano at 38.050 (2nd Vault - 9.625, 1st Beam - 9.825 and Floor 9.650). 1st Beam). Other AA champions and standout AA performers include 2014 Gymcats Level 4 Champion and currently a 2015 Level 5 winner, Avery Byun (37.675, 1st Beam - 9.675), Kaitlyn Tran (1st AA - 37.675, 1st Floor - 9.675) and Amy Sullivan (37.550, 1st Vault - 9.650). Notable, was also the Level 5 meet event high score efforts turned by Amy Sullivan - Vault (9.650), Brisa Mariano - Beam (9.8250) and Kaitlyn Tran - Floor (9.675).
