Wildfire Gymnastics began its fourteenth compulsory competition season on September 10th 2016. The SoCal 1st Prelim, “Gymchella” was held at the J.W. Pavilion in Palm Dessert, it including 201 gymnasts. Six Wildfire gymnasts, they representing Levels 3, 4 and 5, did so by score, rank among the top 6 of that total number of 201 participating. By the end of the weekend Wildfire emerged as Level 3, 4 and 5 Team Champions. Forty-eight Wildfire gymnasts, on the weekend, accumulated 106 top three awards, 49 of them being for championship gold.

From 14 Wildfire Level 5 girls came 37 top 3 finishes, 16 of them for 1st. Three of these gymnasts ended the meet by becoming Level 5 Gold Medal All Around Champions, three more winning AA Silver. Nine Wildfire gymnasts ranked among the first 9, finishing inside the top 10 of the complete roster of Level 5’s competing. Leading the list by score were Jr. 11 - 12 year old AA Champion, Kaitlyn Tran (38.475, 1st Vault - 9.500, 1st Bars - 9.575, 1st Beam - 9.825!, 1st Floor - 9.575), Bri Nguyen (37.850) and 13 year old All Around winner, Amanda Acosta (1st Bars - 9.450, 1st Beam - 9.625, 1st Floor - 9.500). Kaitlyn posted the meet’s high score among athletes at every level and age group on Bars and Beam as did Level 5 Emily Tjon for Vault (9.625). Additional standout performances included those by Ch. 9 - 10 year old AA Champion, Ali Thomas (1st Bars and Floor), AA Silver Medalist Molly Osborne (1st Vault - 9.400) and Mikayla Stover (1st Beam - 9.625).

There were 71 Level 4 gymnasts competing meet wide and Wildfire’s Presley Wickman ranked 1st among them all, her total being 38.025 (1st Beam - 9.700, 1st Floor 9.575). Her Beam and Floor scores were the highest among all Level 4’s including every age group. Just behind her by AA score was Sr. 13 year old All Around Champion Addie Anderson, she ranking 2nd among that group of 71 athletes. Addie, scoring an AA total of 37.850 finished out winning also Vault (9.525), Beam (9.650) and Floor (9.575). Addie’s Vault score was the highest of all Level 4’s including every age group. Outstanding efforts were rewarded as were those by Ch. 7 - 8 year old All Around Champion Arianna Espinoza (1st Vault, 1st Beam - 9.625) and Ch. 11 year old All Around Silver Medalist, Natasha Le with wins on Vault and Bars (9.500). By the end of the day eleven Wildfire gymnasts accounted for 28 top three finish awards from which 12 were for 1st.

Competing for honors were 95 Level 3 gymnasts from which the top 2 of that number were Wildfire girls including 9 year old AA Champion, Grace Hassenplug (1st AA - 37.950, 1st Bars - 9.575, 1st Beam - 9.675, Floor - 9.500) and 10 year old Makena Jarrett (1st AA - 37.650, 2nd Bars - 9.525, 1st Beam - 9.575, 1st Floor - 9.600). Graces’ Bar score ties Wildfire’s Level 5, Kaitlyn Trans’ as being the highest of the competition including all levels and age groups. Makena’s Floor score did the same as being the highest total on that event for the weekend. Wildfire Level 3 gymnasts accumulated 41 top 3 awards, 16 of them Gold. 1st place award winners also included 8 year old All Around champion, Keili Harmston (1st Beam), All Around Silver Medalist all: Ch. 5 - 7 year old, Emma Le (2nd AA - 37.425, 1st Beam - 9.500, 1st Floor - 9.525), 8 year old, Sabrina Signorino (2nd AA, 1st Bars, 1st Floor) and 10 year old Sydney Barnhill (2nd AA - 37.400, 1st Vault - 9.625). Sydney’s Vault score ties Wildfire’s Level 5, Emily Tjon’s as being the highest of the competition including all levels and age groups. Notable individual event Gold Medal efforts were proven by Vault Champions each, Katie Beiger and Samantha Bray.
