Wildfire Gymnastics’ 2014 Compulsory Team began their competitive season in good order, results including a Level 3, 4 and 5 first place team championship sweep. The NAWGJ Judges Cup South, having been held in Chula Vista, CA was a two day event hosting some 428 gymnasts representing 17 teams. Wildfire brought 59 athletes. These 59 gymnasts competing in just 10 age groups, produced together 36 top 6 All Around finishes, 19 of them being among the top 3 by meet’s end.

Ten year old Level 3, Payton Polana accounted for the highest All Around total of the meet (37.875), including all levels and age divisions. Payton in so doing won each event posting Level meet high scores on Beam, Floor (9.700), second highest on Bars (9.550). Wildfire Level 3 All Around Champions also include: 9 year old Amelia Wagner (37.250 - 1st Beam, Floor), 11 year old Addie Anderson (1st Beam, Floor) and 6/7 year old division, Mikayla Stover (1st Bars,). Individual event 1st place standout performances would involve 2nd AA finisher Ailani Tran (1st Vault - 9.4, 1st Bars - 9.4), 2nd AA Bridget Bevan (Vault - 9.55), and scoring the highest Vault score of the meet including all levels and age groups, Kate Arakawa (9.600).

The second highest All Around total of the meet including all levels and age divisions (37.675) was accumulated by Wildfire’s Level 4 - 10/ 11 year old AA Champion Brisa Mariano. During her course, Brisa culminated the competition winning three of four events as well, they being Vault, Beam and Floor. Just following Brisa and finishing 2nd AA (37.475), was 2013 Level 3 State All Around Champion Ruby Mach. Additional outstanding All Around performances were characteristic, this first meet of the year weekend, evidenced also by 2nd place All Around finishers, Amy Sullivan (1st Vault, Floor), 9 year old Katarina Delgado (1st Vault, Beam and Floor). First place individual event Gold medal awards were, as well, accepted by 10/ 11 year old 4th place All Around finisher and Bar Champion, Natalie Rydel (9.525) and so to by 4th ranked AA competitor , Alexa Alcantar for Beam.

Of the total count of 70 Level 5 gymnasts participating, Wildfire’s Olivia Roberts finished her competition ranked 2nd among them, this count of 70 athletes, and whatever the age division. Twelve Level 5 Wildfire gymnasts competed this meet, and by the last event, became the 2014 Judges Cup Team Champions. From these 12 gymnasts, came also 10 top 5 All Around finishes, 6 being among the top 3 AA. Our top 3 ranked All Around Champions are: 13 year old Erica Miller (1st AA, 1st Beam), 9/ 10 year old Olivia Roberts (2nd AA), 13 year old Erika Flaherty (2nd AA, 1st Vault, 1st Floor - 9.625), 11 year olds Roxy Wright (2nd AA) and Maya Dahan (3rd AA, 1st Bars), 12 year old Maya Alves (3rd AA). Outstanding 1st place Gold medal award winning individual event performances include those also from Karyssa Owens (Floor), Julia Patrick (Bars) and Makenzie Stanton (Beam).
