Wildfire Gymnastics congratulates our athletes regarding their most outstanding efforts as they finished the 2015 optional Level 7 season. The Level 7 group finished out their season at the Region 1 Championships held at the Long Beach Convention Center. Region 1 comprises five state level divisions, they being SoCal, NorCal, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. From these states came 536 gymnasts representing 138 private club teams. From these 138 teams, Wildfire ranked 3rd. And amongst the 536 participating athletes there, 8 Wildfire gymnasts gathered 20 top three awards including 13 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze medals. Five of these medals were for All Around.
The highest scoring gymnast for Wildfire was Karyssa Owens (38.125), she becoming the ‘Ch H’ Regional Vault Champion (9.650) and Silver medalist on Floor (9.750). Jordan Warner culminated her Level 7 experience this year, posting Wildfire’s second highest AA score (38.075), she too winning Vault (9.675) and placing 2nd on Floor (9.725). Phoebe Ladd, ‘Jr G’ age division’s All Around Silver medalist (38.000), did also during her course of competition, became both Region 1 Vault (9.775) and Floor (9.775) Champion for 2015. Notable is that Phoebe’s Vault score was the second highest of the entire meet of 536 gymnasts.
Wildfire Region 1 All Around Champions, Sydney Schaefgen and Erika Flaherty, with AA 2nd place runner up Allyson Hom (2nd AA - 37.700, 1st Beam - 9.45 and 1st Floor - 9.725) had between the three of them, accounted for seven Gold medals. As part of her AA win, Sydney won the ‘Jr E’ age group’s Vault Championship as she did also for Bars (9.700). AA Champion Erica Flaherty culminated her AA winning competition by supplementing her experience becoming the ’Sr D’ Regional Vault Champion (9.700) as well.
Outstanding highlights include 4th place AA performer Kimi Kishimoto with her 2015 Level 7 State Championship win on Beam (9.600) and Makenzie Stanton’s own Gold medal effort on Beam for a 9.525.
