In Wildfire's short history (just a little more than half a decade), our Level 9 athletes have accumulated a total of 24 top three finishes while participating at J.O. Western Nationals, six of them being All-Around.
At Westerns 2009 on May 9, Courtney Napoli's 1st place AA result matched that of her sister Kim's 2006 Western National 1st Place AA Championship with the identical score! Both victories were accomplished while the same age, and they each culminated their experience competing last up on Vault, their final event. Courtney's gold medal AA effort certifies an invitation for her to attend a training camp at the US National Team Training Center on the Karolyi ranch in Houston this October. Courtney is also the Jr. 7 Western National Floor Champion.
Zoe Draghi achieved the 8th highest All-Around score of 377 TOTAL gymnasts taking part at the 2009 Western Nationals in Oklahoma. She became there as well, the top overall AA scoring gymnast from Southern California. Placing third All-Around in the JR 6 division with a 37.675, Zoe adds among her highlights the Silver Medal performance on Beam after which she earned a prized 9.6.
On Saturday May 16, Wildfire's Natelle Gentile and Cerise Witherby will both compete in the Junior D division at the J.O. Level 10 National Championships to be held in Washington State. They qualified by securing two of the seven spots which constitute the Region 1 team representing SoCal, NorCal, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. This will be Natelle's third appearance and Cerise's second. Natelle earned a place on the J.O. National Team in 2007.
