Wildfire Gymnastics completed its compulsory Levels 3, 4 and 5 pre championship season of 2015 on the weekend of October 17th at the 3rd SoCal Sectional Qualifier. The competition involved in total, 446 gymnasts. Wildfire’s Skylar Ruffner and Brianna Taurek were the top 2 scoring athletes among this group of 446. Each of the 54 compulsory level Wildfire gymnasts have qualified to Sectional Championships. Thirty three of these girls ranked among the top 6 All Around from which 23 of them won either Gold, Silver or Bronze. By competition’s end, Wildfire teams Level 3, 4 and 5 each won their respective Team Championship.

Leading our Level 3 effort, being the top scoring gymnast of the 199 total Level 3 athletes competing, was 10 year old All Around Champion Brianna Taurek (38.225, 1st Vault - 9.775, 1st Beam - 9.625). She, including Lauren Stephens (38.150, 1st Vault - 9.575), Gillian Burrows (37.900), AA Champion Ashley Ables (37.825, 1st Bars, 1st Floor - 9.650), Arianna Espinoza (1st Vault - 9.875!!, 1st Floor - 9.700), Kiley Boyden (37.425, 1st Beam - 9.500), Bridget Bevan, Kristina Newton, and Grace Hassenplug all finished out as either Gold, Silver or Bronze All Around medal winners! Gold medal individual event winners also include: on Vault - Kate Arakawa (9.600) and Emma Brandon (9.550), adding further on Floor and Beam - Abbie Callihan.

Five of the 7 top scoring gymnasts of the 190 Level 4’s participating were Wildfire athletes. Sixteen Wildfire Level 4 gymnasts earned top 6 All Around awards, six of these AA awards being Gold. All Around Gold medal winners include: Skylar Ruffner (38.275, 1st Bars - 9.625, 1st Floor - 9.800!!), Sydney Leitch (38.025, 1st Bars, 1st Beam - 9.550 and Floor - 9.800!!), Dominique Oertel (37.975, 1st Beam, 1st Floor - 9.650), 10 year old co - champions Alexa Alcantar (1st Bars - 9.550, 1st Floor - 9.625) and Amelia Wagner (1st Vault, 1st Beam), followed then by AA, Vault and Bars (9.525) Champion Sarah Assad. Complementing the efforts of these girls were strong Silver medal All Around performances by Amanda Acosta (37.800), Claire MacDonald (1st Floor - 9.600) and Taylor Puma. Additional, 1st place individual event winners include: on Floor - Sophie Mitsumori (9.650), and on Vault - Sophia Gross and Emily Tjon (9.575).

As Wildfire’s leading Level 5 All Around scoring gymnast (37.350, 1st Vault - 9.850!!, 1st Beam, 1st Floor 9.650), Amy Sullivan’s Gold Medal All Around Championship performance ranked her 2nd amongst the total roster of 57 Level 5 athletes participating, both days, every age group and session. Following Amy in Silver Medal position was Kaitlyn Tran, she winning Beam in the process by posting a 9.600 there. All
Around Bronze medalists each, Brisa Mariano (1st Beam, 1st Floor - 9.725!) and Dasha Knoble (1st Vault - 9.600) were instrumental, along with Amy, Kaitlyn and their fellow teammates of four, in bringing about Wildfire’s third Gold Medal Pumpkin Patch Team Championship of the weekend.
